Birth Of Esther Handelsman, Rudno, 1844

Esther Shaindel Handelsman was Jenny Goodman's mother. This is her birth record from Michow in 1844. It mentions Rudno, which is a village in the town (gmina) of Michow. I cannot see "Ester" but I do see "Szandla" on line 10. On line 12 is the signature of Esther's father Dawid Handelsman.

Translation by Brian Kaczynski

It happened in the city of Michów on the 22nd of July, 1844 at 10am. Dawid Handelsbaum, of the Jewish faith, resident of the village of Rudno and working as a pacht (?), age 27, appeared before me in the presence of Jewish witnesses Leybuś Brzenbaum (or Bozenbaum) -- [Dozorcy Burniznego is some kind of profession, I'm not sure what), age 64, and Berech Goldsztain, a dzbelnich (again, another old vocation I can't translate), age 65 and showed us a female child born in the village of Rudno on the 14th of July of the present year at 12 midnight to his wife Perla of the house of Leybus (it's her maiden name, not "patronymic" which would seem to refer to her father's first name -- we do not use a patronymic in Polish, it is only used in Russian), age 24, to whom was given the name Szandla (I do not see the word "Ester" here anywhere) Apt ten (I couldn't translate this). This was read back to all parties present and was signed by the father as well as the witnesses.

NOTES: The places referred to above are Michów & Rudno near Michów in the Lubelskie Voivodeship

*Dawid Handeleman's occupation is being described as "pachciarz" literally meaning "tenant"; although no direct indication is avilable as to what the object of his tenancy was, it was definitely the source of his income
