Isaac and Malka Gutman were my 4th great grandparents. No records of them, apart from being mentioned as the parents of Wolf Gutman (1789-1844) and Baruch Gutman (1793-1846). First record of the Gutman family is from 1830 in Kock (Kotsk), when Wolf's infant daughter Fayga died. Wolf was a tavern keeper and Baruch a laborer.
Wolf died in Kock in 1844, Baruch in 1846, Wolf's wife Frieda in 1855, Baruch's son David in 1872, and David's first wife Tamar in 1855. No indication of where any of them were born. Wolf and Frieda had a daughter, Shaindel Goldstein, who married in 1838 and had sons Abraham (1840) and Wolf (1851). A son, Baruch, is the only survivor mentioned in the record of Frieda's death in 1855. Shaindel might have died before then, or might have moved away from Kock.
The only record of Baruch is the 1846 record of his death. There is a record of his son David's marriage to Tamar Hanft in Konskowola in 1836, and of the birth of David and Tamar's son Yankiel (Jenny's father) in Kock in 1844. David is described as a teacher.
Yankiel married Esther Shaindel Handelsman. No record of this. Records of the births of Dvora in Michow in 1872 and of Yenta in Michow in 1872, also the marriages in Michow of Yenta (1892), Leah (1896), and Malka (1901). There is also a record of the death of Esther Shaindel in Michow in 1899. There is also a record of the birth of Leah in Kock in 1875. No records of Charna (Jenny) or Noah. No one alive ever heard of Dvora, Leah, or Malka. My mother's given name, on her birth certificate, was Dvora, so possibly she was named after her aunt.
David Gutman remarried after the death of his first wife and at least one child of that marriage, Ruchla Bielaniec, born 1859, reached adulthood and married in Kock in 1877. Wolf Gutman had several children but only one, Shaindel Ruchla Goldstein, born 1820, is known to have reached adulthood and married in Kock in 1838. At least one of Shaindel's son, Abraham Goldstein, born 1840, reached adulthood and married in Kock. There are other Gutman records from Kock but for most there is no evidence of blood relationship.
So the extended Gutman family was in Kock from 1830-1877. With so many there for that long it is likely that many of the descendants of Isaac and Malka were there until World War II. It is also likely that many emigrated.
So Jenny Goodman's parents were Yankiel Gutman (1844-?) and Esther Shaindel Gutman (?-1899), nee Handelsman.
Yankiel's parents were David Gutman (1813-1872) and Tamar Hanft (1814-1855). David's parents were Baruch (1793-1846) and Yenta Gutman (?-?). Baruch's parents were Isaac (?-?) and Malka (?-?).
Esther Shaindel's parents are noted on her death certificate as David Handelsman and Perla Handelsman, nee Kave. Her death was reported by her brother Moshe, 56, who also resided in Michow.
Interesting that Esther Shaindel's mother was named Perla. I was always under the impression that my aunt Pearl was named after Jenny's mother but perhaps she was actually named after Jenny's grandmother.

On 7 March 1855 at 4 pm appeared Judka Ruttman or Ruktman aged 52
and Zelman Wartownik aged 57 both residing in Kock and stated that
on 5 March at 5 am died Tema aged 39 residing (with her husband) in
Kock, daughter of a married couple, Moszko and Maria… after .... of Malzonek
(the spouse) and after ... with own eyes, signed about the demise
of Tema Gutman.
On 7 March 1855 at 4 pm appeared Judka Ruttman or Ruktman aged 52

Birth of Yankiel Gutman in 1844
"on 8 October 1844 at 9am appeared before me David Gutman, teacher aged 37 (?) residing in Kock, with witness Judka Ruchtman szkolnik aged 40 and Zelman Wartownik, szkolnik aged 40, both residing in Kock, and showed us a baby boy born in Kock on 1 October 1844 at 4 am, of his wife Fema (Telma?) aged 30, and named Jankiel.
Death of Beryl Gutman in 1846
This document ties Baruch Gutman to both David (as survivor) and Wolf (same parents). In the 1872 document of David's death, Baruch is mentioned as his father, and survivors are named as Szejwa, Ruchla, and Yankiel.
"On 21 April 1846 at 9 am appeared before me Judka Rechtman, "szkolnik" aged 43 and Zelman Wartownik, "szkolnik" aged 42 residing in Kock and stated that on 20 April at 1pm died Beryl Gutman, labourer aged 53, residing in Kock, son of Icek and Mala (?), leaving behind son David. The certificate, after reading, was signed by Judka Rechtman only, because Zelman Wartownik can't write."

Ruchla was Yankiel's half-sister by his stepmother Szejwa

"on 12 November 1855 at 11am appeared before me Judka Rechtrman, szkolnik, aged 52, and Zelman Wartownik, szkolnik aged 51, both residing in Kock and stated that on 11 November at 6am died Frajda Gutman, widow, labourer residing in Kock, aged 74, daughter of Lejbush and Fajga, married couple, leaving behind son Baruch."
Death of Wolf Gutman in 1844 in Kock
"On 17 November 1844 at 11am appeared Jutka Rechtman, szkolnik, aged 48, and Zelman Wartownik, "szkolnik" aged 40, residing in Kock, and stated that on 16 November 1844 at 3 am died Wolf Gutman, cleric, residing in Kock, aged 55, son of Israel and Mala, leaving behind wife Freida. The certificate, after reading, was signed by Jutka Rechtman only, because Zelman Wartownik can't write."

"It happened in Kock on 21 December 1838 (or 34) at 10 am appeared before me Szmul Ksiazka with Mordka Dawidowicz Goldstein, residing with parents, aged 19, born in Kock of David and Mindla Goldstein residing in Kock, tavern keepers, and Szendla Ruchla Gutman, spinster aged 18, born of Wolf Gutman, tavern keeper, and Frieda Gutman, married couple, residing in Kock, who until now was living with her parents and stated that yesterday in the presence of witnesses David Mindl, tavern keeper, aged 53 and Judka Richtman aged 35 residing in Kock, a religious marriage between Mordka and Szendla was concluded, which was proceeded by banns on 1, 8 and 15 December in the Kock synagogue. Verbal permission for the wedding was given by David Goldstein and Wolf Gutman. The newlyweds did not sign any prenuptial agreement.
This certificate is hereby issued by Franciszek Kierglewicz, person in charge of Civil Records, after reading it out to the witnesses."

1908 immigration document
On this document it gives the address of 518 Burrows Avenue, Winnipeg in column 11 as the address of closest relative (Jennie Goodman). There are records in Winnipeg that a J Goodman, cabinet maker with the GW Murray Company, resided at that address. The owner of the house was an E. Meyers.
In column 18 it states that Joe is going to a cousin named C. Meyers at 1807 Carr (possibly Cora) in St Louis. Odd coincidence of the name Meyers.
Columns 30,31,32 state that Joe arrived in Montreal on the SS Victorian in May, '05. 1906 seems more likely to me. Passenger List For SS Victorian (just enter Victorian for 'Name Of Ship')
Joe told me that they tried farming in Quebec but gave up after one winter. I conjecture that they moved on to Winnipeg, where cousin E. Meyers offered shelter. Perhaps E. Meyers also worked for GW Murray.
What a journey! From the shtetl to St Louis in 8 years, via Warsaw, London, Montreal, and Winnipeg
