Isaac and Malka Gutman were my 4th great grandparents. No records of them, apart from being mentioned as the parents of Wolf Gutman (1789-1844) and Baruch Gutman (1793-1846). First record of the Gutman family is from 1830 in Kock (Kotsk), when Wolf's infant daughter Fayga died. Wolf was a tavern keeper and Baruch a laborer.
Wolf died in Kock in 1844, Baruch in 1846, Wolf's wife Frieda in 1855, Baruch's son David in 1872, and David's first wife Tamar in 1855. No indication of where any of them were born. Wolf and Frieda had a daughter, Shaindel Goldstein, who married in 1838 and had sons Abraham (1840) and Wolf (1851). A son, Baruch, is the only survivor mentioned in the record of Frieda's death in 1855. Shaindel might have died before then, or might have moved away from Kock.
The only record of Baruch is the 1846 record of his death. There is a record of his son David's marriage to Tamar Hanft in Konskowola in 1836, and of the birth of David and Tamar's son Yankiel (Jenny's father) in Kock in 1844. David is described as a teacher.
Yankiel married Esther Shaindel Handelsman. No record of this. Records of the births of Dvora in Michow in 1872 and of Yenta in Michow in 1872, also the marriages in Michow of Yenta (1892), Leah (1896), and Malka (1901). There is also a record of the death of Esther Shaindel in Michow in 1899. There is also a record of the birth of Leah in Kock in 1875. No records of Charna (Jenny) or Noah. No one alive ever heard of Dvora, Leah, or Malka. My mother's given name, on her birth certificate, was Dvora, so possibly she was named after her aunt.
David Gutman remarried after the death of his first wife and at least one child of that marriage, Ruchla Bielaniec, born 1859, reached adulthood and married in Kock in 1877. Wolf Gutman had several children but only one, Shaindel Ruchla Goldstein, born 1820, is known to have reached adulthood and married in Kock in 1838. At least one of Shaindel's son, Abraham Goldstein, born 1840, reached adulthood and married in Kock. There are other Gutman records from Kock but for most there is no evidence of blood relationship.
So the extended Gutman family was in Kock from 1830-1877. With so many there for that long it is likely that many of the descendants of Isaac and Malka were there until World War II. It is also likely that many emigrated.
So Jenny Goodman's parents were Yankiel Gutman (1844-?) and Esther Shaindel Gutman (?-1899), nee Handelsman.
Yankiel's parents were David Gutman (1813-1872) and Tamar Hanft (1814-1855). David's parents were Baruch (1793-1846) and Yenta Gutman (?-?). Baruch's parents were Isaac (?-?) and Malka (?-?).
Esther Shaindel's parents are noted on her death certificate as David Handelsman and Perla Handelsman, nee Kave. Her death was reported by her brother Moshe, 56, who also resided in Michow.
Interesting that Esther Shaindel's mother was named Perla. I was always under the impression that my aunt Pearl was named after Jenny's mother but perhaps she was actually named after Jenny's grandmother.
