McMurtry email

This is a March 2004 email from Richard McMurtry to our French in-law Larry, with the attachments; I don't know if this was before or after he disproved our Gera Rabbi ancestry:

From: "Richard McMurtry" rmcmurtry@igc.org

To: "Larry Joffe" Larry.Joffe@pt.lu

Larry,
It seems like it is either feast or famine! After months of no news, we now have a fairly complete translation of both the birth and marriage record of Yenta Gutman. These came from a posting I made to the Jewish Genealogical Society website and someone just translated them to be of help to us! It shows that her parents (and hence Jennie's parents and Noah's parents) were:
Avram Yankiel Gutman (b ca 1844)
and
Shandlya Handelman b ca 1846).
And looking at the Michow database I "bought", we have Shandlya's death date in 1899 (when Jennie was 18 and Yenta was 27) and looking at the online database for Michow, we have Shandlya's birth record in 1844!
We now also know that Avram Gutman was living with his parents when his daughter Yenta was born in the village of Rudno which is a few miles east from the town of Michow near the center of the attached map.
We also know that when Yenta was born, he was called Yankiel Gutman, not Avram Gutman. And lo and behold there is a record in 1844 in Kotsk for a Yankiel Gutman. I have ordered the Mormon microfilms of the Kotsk registers and will let everyone know what I find.
Anyway, at last we have a possible connection between the Goodman family and the town of Kotsk!
I'm sending a copy of this email to the rest of the family and I'm listing your website for those interested in seeing what you've put together (in case anyone wants to contribute more photographs - we don't have any for Yenta). I was impressed that you've already got the new data up on the website and the "ink" is hardly dried on the page!!!
